The Ministry of Diaspora Affairs, with the help of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, sent a significant amount of heating equipment to Ukraine as humanitarian aid. This humanitarian shipment which includes 450 power transformers, 500 generators and 150 mobile water purifiers, along with significant amount of clothes and personal necessities is sent to Odessa for Jewish families affected by the war in Ukraine. The value of this shipment is 2.5 million dollars, which was prepared and sent by the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs. A considerable part of this shipment is provided by the Jews living in Azerbaijan.
The war moved the Israeli government to introduce accelerated repatriation rules for Jews in Ukraine. A mass migration of citizens of Jewish descent began immediately after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
According to Israeli media, the Israeli government allocated 90 million shekels to set up camps for Jewish refugees in Azerbaijan and to support accelerated repatriation procedures for Russian Jews. According to the Israeli government, since February this year a total of 40,000 citizens repatriated to the country, 24,000 of them from Russia. This makes it the largest exodus of Jews in the last 20 years. It is reported that the establishment of temporary refugee camps in Azerbaijan is being handled by the staff of the Jewish Agency for Israel and with the help of Azerbaijan’s government.
The establishment of camp in Azerbaijan to host fleeing Jews from Russia and illegal transfer of their funds to Baku shows the destructive role of Azerbaijan against Russia in the Ukraine war.
Supply gas to Moldova and increasing gas exports to Europe to make up for the energy shortage show a silent enmity between Baku and Moscow over the past year. As a NATO allied country, Azerbaijan officially follows the policy of weakening Moscow in the Black Sea and Caucasus region.
